Power Cuts

There is a rumour that we could be losing power again at 4 00pm. If the rumour proves to be accurate I'm afraid we will be closed this evening. If it is unfounded and we don't lose power it's business as usual.

I am letting you all know now as when we lose power we lose mobile signals and internet connections.

Hope to be open at 5 00, fingers crossed.

Please note: The Snug will be closed this Sunday. Open again as usual on Tuesday 8th.

Beer Festival, Trips and Fringe Theatre

Apologies for the lack of updates recently, this has been due to technical problems and a long holday in Rome and Vienna. By the way, we found a bar in Vienna offering Thornbridge and Tiny Rebel, as well as wonderful local craft beers. If you are planning to visit the bar is called The Brickmakers Cider and Ale House.

Anyway, plans are now advancing for the beer festival on November 20 and 21. Some fine beers have been selected and Paul has designed our wonderful poster. On the Sunday (22nd Nov) Haste Theatre will be performing two of their wonderful fringe shows that have been performed at the Edinburgh Fringe, San Diego, Miami and Rome fringe festivals while winning numerous awards and top notch reviews. They will be performing in the afternoon in the Furness Hall where any remaining beers from the festival will be on sale. Details will be posted on here in the next few days.

Places are still available on our trip to Manchester on December 6. The charabanc leaves The Snug at 10 30am leaving Manchester at 7 00pm. The itinerary is being finalised but we will be dropping off at Chorlton Street, then the Marble Arch.

On New Year's Eve we are going to Hawkshead Beer Hall. Places filled up very quickly but we do have a reserve list in case of cancellations. Please get in touch asap if you would like to put your name(s) down.

Beer list for tomorrow will be going on in the morning but if you follow us on Twitter and Facebook we update on those as and when beers change.

Cracking holiday we had, but it's nice to be back and we promise to update the blog regularly now we are back in the saddle.

Saturday 29 August 2015

Where Does The Time Go?

Well, three years ago today we were busily getting sorted ready for our preview night followed by our grand opening on August 1st 2012.We were the first micropub in the North West and the seventh in the country, there are now many more in the North West and well over 100 nationally. Micropubs are booming.

Along the way we've met some fantastic people, customers, brewers other bar/pub owners who are now great friends. It's truly been a roller coaster ride and both Julie and I have really enjoyed the last three years and look forward to many more. A huge thank you to all who have helped make The Snug what it is today. There will be some special treats over the weekend including a raffle tomorrow and a short quiz at some stage to raise some money for Help for Heroes by way of celebrating our birthday.

We are now taking bookings for the next Snug Outing which is on Sunday September 6th to the East Lancashire Railway and various pubs. The cost is only £10 pp and we will be leaving around 9 45, due back at about 20 45. Booking is brisk so please let us know asap. Those who have already booked your £10s are now due.

Great few weeks ahead with le Tour in its first week and The Ashes kicking off today. Thanks to Carnforth Cricket Club we had a great night on Friday watching Lancashire thrash Yorkshire in the T20 followed by Inspiral Carpets playing live. Happy days!

Manchester continues to boom with cracking breweries. We've had several beers on from Cloudwater in recent months which have proved extremely popular. Meanwhile Blackjack are now running the Smithfield Tavern on Swan Street in Manchester which will prove extremely popular I'm sure when we have our annual Snug Christmas outing to Manchester, which is provisionally 29 November. Thank you for your understanding. Now here's one for those who couldn't decide whether to join us on the trip or not:

Sunday 31 May 2015

Current Beers and Pint Records

Well, some time ago we set a record for selling a cask of Marble Pint in 1hr 50 mins. We then beat that down to 1 hr 35 mins. On Friday last week we had a very busy night and the first beer went at 5 30 when the Marble Pint went on. At 6 20 the cask was empty, yes 50 minutes, our new record. Special thanks to David Unsworth, his enthusiasm and knowledge about gin are inspiring and he was extremely entertaining too. We had the added bonus of tasting 6 fantastic gins that few of us had ever come across before. It is well worth a visit to Cartmel to visit David's wonderful wine and spirit shop at Unsworth's Yard .

Malcolm was a true gentleman and will be sadly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren and his many friends. Rest in Peace.

Had a great day yesterday, Mike Harding popped in at lunchtime. I saw him a few times a few years back and it was good to actually meet him. Such a nice fella and you can still hear his folk show on the radio at five on a Sunday here The Mike Harding Folk Show . Then I got to try the Hawkshead Black Hop which is next up in The Snug. A pint of true black hoppy delight.

A few of us are planning a trip to watch Real Madrid v Almeria on 29the April. The game is on the Wednesday and we will be in Madrid from Monday to Thursday. If you are interested please get in touch asap. Cost will be around £150 for flights and accommodation.

Tuesday 10 February 2015

Beer, Outings and Food

Always on the lookout for something a bit different we have found a restaurant with a difference, so on the trip to Liverpool on March 1st we will be booking places at  Alma de Cuba . Basically the restaurant is in a redundant church and while eating brunch we will be entertained by a gospel choir. We will be booking for 2-00pm and anybody wishing to join us needs to let us know by Friday this week. We still have a few places left on the trip and payment is now due.

We start this lovely new week with the following beers:

Here's a belting flashmob from a railway station. No, sadly it's not Carnforth but Antwerp:

Wednesday 4 February 2015

We're Home!

No blogging last week as we were off recharging batteries in the Forest of Dean. Thank you to the girls for their hard work as ever in keeping the show on the road. Not to mention Kitch for his help in lugging casks around last week, much appreciated as always.

Holidays are always a great time but it's nice to be back and to start catching up on all the news from regulars and others. It seems that last week's Dark and Winter Ales festival went well with Kirkby Lonsdale's Singletrack Double Black (8%) being mentioned by several people yesterday as being yet another outstanding brew from a cracking brewery.

Payment is now due for those joining us on our Liverpool trip on March 1st. We still have a few places left so get in touch asap if interested in joining us.

Now then, what's on at the moment? Here we go:

Kirkby Lonsdale-Crafty Mild 3.6%

Marble/Hawkshead-Beer Matts' 5% (but not a lot)
ISCA-Dawlish Ale 3.8%

Abrahall's-Slack Alice 4.6%

As we start thinking about our next little break, as you do when you get back from holiday, this song always repeats in my head, an 'earworm' I think it's called:

Friday 23 January 2015

Something for the Weekend?

Wednesday was a great day out at the Manchester Beer and Cider Festival, which is on until tomorrow, I'd recommend you get there if you can. It was good to meet up with some of our regulars, some of the lads and lasses from some of the breweries and other micropubs we know and a mate I haven't seen for about 30 years. Quite a day and some wonderful beers.

Just a reminder to those who are joining us on our Liverpool trip on March 1st that payment is due by February 1st. If you have not yet booked we have about 10 places left and we expect them to go pretty soon now so get in touch sharpish if you would like to join us.

Beer, Beer!

After a pleasant couple of days fulfilling our New Year resolutions of moderating intake and increasing exercise (well it is only January 6th) it's back to work. Oh, by the way, our resolutions do not include the ludicrous 'Dry January'.

Mayflower-Douglas Valley 4%
Black Iris-Rose of My Heart 4.2%

We will be leaving at 10 00am leaving to head back at 7 00pm. We are still awaiting confirmation of cost but don't expect it to exceed last year's price of £12pp. Payment will be required (non-refundable) by 1 February.
