Beer and Liverpool

We were very sorry to hear about the sudden death of one of our regulars yesterday. Malcolm Brownsord of Burton in Kendal died suddenly on Monday, his funeral is on Friday next week. Please get in touch if you would like details. His family have requested donations to St John's Hospice in Lancaster in memoriam. Malcolm was a true gentleman and will be sadly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren and his many friends. Rest in Peace.

Oh No, Friday 13th

Had a great day yesterday, Mike Harding popped in at lunchtime. I saw him a few times a few years back and it was good to actually meet him. Such a nice fella and you can still hear his folk show on the radio at five on a Sunday here The Mike Harding Folk Show . Then I got to try the Hawkshead Black Hop which is next up in The Snug. A pint of true black hoppy delight.

A few of us are planning a trip to watch Real Madrid v Almeria on 29the April. The game is on the Wednesday and we will be in Madrid from Monday to Thursday. If you are interested please get in touch asap. Cost will be around £150 for flights and accommodation.

So then, what's on the bar today? Here we go:

Marble-Lagonda 5%
Fuzzy Duck-Winter Waddle 5%
Stockport-Bitter Lemon 4.2%
Twickenham-Redhead 4.1%
Merrie City-Cascadian 4%

Lilley's-Darkcider 7.5%
Gwatkins-No Bull 4.5%

I first learnt the following poem at Xaverian, Manchester in about 1973. Little did I know I would later hear it on a Cream album.

Beer, Outings and Food

Always on the lookout for something a bit different we have found a restaurant with a difference, so on the trip to Liverpool on March 1st we will be booking places at  Alma de Cuba . Basically the restaurant is in a redundant church and while eating brunch we will be entertained by a gospel choir. We will be booking for 2-00pm and anybody wishing to join us needs to let us know by Friday this week. We still have a few places left on the trip and payment is now due.

We start this lovely new week with the following beers:

Chadwick's-Castle Pale 4.2%
Winster Valley-Lakes Blonde 3.8% (but not a lot)
OSB-Hopscotch 3.7%
Kirkby Lonsdale-Northern 'T'Ale 3.9%

Next up Long Man's-American Pale Ale and then Thornbridge-Hopton.

Ciders:

Lilley's-Darksider 7.5%
Abrahall's-Slack Alice 4.6% (not a lot)

Here's a belting flashmob from a railway station. No, sadly it's not Carnforth but Antwerp:

We're Home!

No blogging last week as we were off recharging batteries in the Forest of Dean. Thank you to the girls for their hard work as ever in keeping the show on the road. Not to mention Kitch for his help in lugging casks around last week, much appreciated as always.

Holidays are always a great time but it's nice to be back and to start catching up on all the news from regulars and others. It seems that last week's Dark and Winter Ales festival went well with Kirkby Lonsdale's Singletrack Double Black (8%) being mentioned by several people yesterday as being yet another outstanding brew from a cracking brewery.

Payment is now due for those joining us on our Liverpool trip on March 1st. We still have a few places left so get in touch asap if interested in joining us.

Now then, what's on at the moment? Here we go:

Kirkby Lonsdale-Crafty Mild 3.6%
Burton Bridge-Golden Delicious 3.8%
Marble/Hawkshead-Beer Matts' 5% (but not a lot)
ISCA-Dawlish Ale 3.8%

Lilley's-Darkcider 7.5%
Abrahall's-Slack Alice 4.6%

As we start thinking about our next little break, as you do when you get back from holiday, this song always repeats in my head, an 'earworm' I think it's called:
