Snug Update

First the beer. Two Roses Brewery Full Nelson will be joining us today, all the way from Barnsley. Yesterday Privateer Beers' Roebuck joined us on the bar and we still have a little Wye Valley HPA and Bob's White Lion left, but not a lot.

Next up will be Nine Standards Gold Standard then Barngate's Brathay Gold.

There will also be a new cider joining us on the bar today. Alongside the ever popular Old Rosie at 7.3% we will have the Gwynt y Ddraig Farmhouse Scrumpy all the way from Wales at 5.3%.

Next week we will be offering Marble Decadence, an 8.7% Imperial Stout in 500ml bottles. I think that is just short of a pint. Why not treat yourself?

There are still a few places left for the outing on March 10th. We will be leaving on the coach at 11-30am for Staveley and a tour of Hawkshead Brewery followed by a few drinks in the beer hall. On the way back we will be calling in at the Strickland Arms and the Watermill at Ings, due back in Carnforth at 7-00pm. The cost will be £7-00.

On March 27th we will be having our first charity quiz night in aid of St John's Hospice. Kick off will be 7-30pm. Further details to follow but please pop the date in your diary.

Make Mine A Pint. Would That Be Milk Or Alcohol Sir?

Although friends used to line their stomachs with a pint of milk before going out on a Friday and Saturday night, I always felt it took up a pint of beer space, so waited for the beer to flow. So here is the good news. Tonight we will be offering the discerning drinker the wonderful Marble Pint. It's not milk, just a wonderful hoppy pale ale.

We still have a little OSB Governors left, but not a lot, it's proving very popular. There is also Ulverston Harvest Moon, but again it is going down a treat and there is not a lot left. In fact the same applies for our other two, Coniston Old Man Ale, a lovely pint, and the Cumberland Brewery Corby Ale.

Expected to debut in The Snug tomorrow is the Wye Valley Hereford Pale Ale. Although this beer may have appeared at one or two festivals this far north we believe it is appearing in a Lancashire pub for the first time. Also on the subs bench is Bob's Brewing Co White Lion, all the way from Ossett, with Deeply Vale Still Walking from Bury also on the bench.

In the '70s I saw the wonderful dr Feelgood once or twice in Manchester, and what occasions they were. Sadly Lee Brilleaux, lead singer, is no longer with us and I was especially sad to hear this week that Wilko Johnson has been disgnosed with terminal cancer and is embarking on a farewell tour. So here's a little tribute to Dr Feelgood and Wilko Johnson:

For Your Pleasure...

This weekend we have a little bit of Two Roses Brewery Galaxy left, but not a lot, it's been very popular. There is Lytham Gold, Blackjack Shuffled Deck and OSB Governors.

Joining us at some point today or tomorrow will be the ever popular Swan Blonde, and maybe the Manchester Bitter from Marble.

There are two steam trains due tomorrow morning so we will be  opening at 11.00am after a mighty fine breakfast in the Brief Encounter Refreshment Room.

In the meantime:

Happy Daze at The Snug-Welsh Cider

We currently have Happy Daze cider from the Gwynt y Ddraig Cider and Perry Company on the bar.

It's 4.5%ABV with a fruity, apply aroma and a well balanced finish. Very refreshing.

We now intend to offer a wider range of cider and perry and will keep you updated via this blog, Twitter and Facebook.

New Beers

Last night we were very busy and the Medieval Priest's Hole went, as did the OSB Blackboard and the Barngate's Chesters Strong and Ugly. Hard to say which was most popular but one customer suggested that the Medieval was the best beer he'd tasted in the Dark and Winter Ale Festival we are part of.

We will start the weekend with the 6.2%ABV Kirkby Lonsdale WDA. We also have the Hardknott Cool Fusion at 4.4% and Privateer Dainty Blond at 4.2%. Joining us today will be Eden Dark Knight, a mild at 3.8%. I'm hoping we can have a full team out tomorrow if the Deeply Vale Golden Vale Best Bitter is ready to go on the fifth pump.

I had a strange experience recently when I was given a few cans of Boddingtons. I grew up when Boddies truly was the 'Cream of Manchester', but what I tasted in those cans was definitely not a special brew, it was rather a very strange brew. No wonder I can't remember the last time I had a pint of it. What have they done to it?

So, on that note, a little music to ease us into the weekend:

The Snug Spring Outing

The next Snug outing will be on Sunday 10 March. The charabanc will leave The Snug at 11.30am and head to the Hawkshead Brewery. The fellas who brew their fantastic ale will be showing us around the brewery then we will have time to quaff the ale and have some food. If you haven't been to the Hawkshead Beer Hall the food is almost as good as the beer.

After a decent length of time we will head back, stopping to sample the ale in a couple of decent pubs on the way. Where we stop will be the subject of a consultation period, which means suggestions will be welcome between now and March 1. We will be arriving back at The Snug about 7-00pm.

Book early with your name(s) and a contact phone number. Cost will be less than £10, hopefully around £5 depending on numbers.

We may even get Comedy Dave to do a bit of stand up on the coach to entertain us!
